This cant end soon enough...

I cannot wait for January 20th to put the last 8 years of incompetence and hell finally to an end.

This is the United States of America the last 8 years has wrought:

The new round of White House pardons announced late last night are Mr Bush's first since March, and come less than two months before the end of his presidency.

The beneficiaries' crimes include drugs conspiracy, tax evasion, poisoning bald eagles, dumping hazardous waste, bank embezzlement and theft of government property.

John Edward Forte, a Grammy Award-winning rapper, is arguably the best known of those pardoned. He was arrested at Newark International Airport in 2000 after being found with a briefcase containing $1.4m of cocaine and was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

And at the same time:

Ms. Amero, a substitute teacher prosecuted on felony charges after a malware-infected computer in her classroom began spewing ads for adult entertainment sites, agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge, pay a $100 fine, and surrender her credentials to teach in the state of Connecticut. "I'm disappointed it ever got this far."

I just cant take much more of this.

Not saying Barack wont make bad decisions or do things I dont agree with, but at the end of the day it will just be nice to have someone else to complain about. An overwelming majority of Americans are crying "UNCLE", we're done, we want out of this spiral.

New Keyboard

I bought a new keyboard. A Microsoft Comfort Curve keyboard. Pretty nice button motion so far. The space bar's a little rattly and when I try to fix it, it looses it's spring back. All the extra buttons just work without installing any new software. No extra USB ports though.

But it does have a button sepecifically to open the Calculator:

Finish This Song

Circus life
Under the big top world
We all need the clowns
To make us smile

Just finish that section of the song before the chorus and bonus points for Song Title and Artist.

And no cheating, do it from memory!

A Better World ...

Here are some things that I think would make the world a much better place:

1) Thunderstorm sounds in public bathrooms.

The random thunder noises would cover up the random butt sounds for the poopers and the rain sound would help people with shy bladders. Everyone wins.

2) The new version of Windows would be new.

Start from scratch. Do it all brand new and dont worry about being legacy compliant. Apple has proven you can do both. Create an ultimate super stable and secure version of Windows from the ground up and if you want to run old Windows apps, you can do it virtually.

3) Allow me to own all of my personalization options.

I should have one password file, one wallet file, one bookmarks file, one of everything that I use and I should be able to use it on any system I get on. There would be no difference between my data on a cell phone or an ATM or anything else.

4) Make celery taste like bacon.

You can eat celery and burn more calories doing it then you take in and while it's yummy by itself it could be better. So they need to start doing some genetic engineering on it and get us some new flavors. Bacon flavor would be a good start. I can just imagine a crazy lab setup with a stalk of celery strapped to one table and some bacon strapped to another table with all these wires connecting the two thru some huge crazy machine with random blinky lights. Although in the wrong hands I guess you could end up with bacon that tastes like celery.

O, Holy Night the Cross is Brightly Shining!

This year the American Family Association is selling the light-up Christmas cross for your yard or porch.

I'm sure this will be a big hit with KKK members who are into holiday yard kitsch.

From the site:

"Looking for an effective way to express your Christian faith this Christmas season to honor our Lord Jesus? Now you can.... with the "Original Christmas Cross" yard decoration."

So let me see, there is a need for a way for people to express their Christian faith this Christmas? Isnt the point of Christmas the celebration and expression of your Christian faith? I mean sure there's all the pagan influences and the focus on giving and getting gifts, but Christ is in the name.

Thankfully this is the "Original Christmas Cross". You wouldnt want to get home to find that you bought a fake Christmas Cross. Wait this Christmas Cross ... it's hooked at the top and has an arrow at the bottom. OMG - it's the symbol Prince used! We've been had! *shakes fist*

Unless they meant that this was a facsimile of the "original" cross, you know the one that was used to kill Christ? Remember that one? I just dont get this cross fascination. At least not everyone uses the one with a statue of Jesus actually hanging on it.

Verizon XV6800

So as some of you may have read, my Samsung i760 crapped out on me (signal wise at different times) and after speaking with a Verizon tech, I found out they are recalling the phone.

So I had to go to our local Verizon Corporate store (which is normally a nightmare of 18 hour waiting followed by a sensation similar to salt being rubbed into your eyes) to get my phone replaced.

The lady on the phone initially said they would replace it with the new XV6900, but upon closer inspection I realized the only other phone they offered that matched the feature set of the i760 was the XV6800. I was a bit worried to switch phones because I was quite happy with the i760 and thought it was doing a good job at everything I was doing. Boy was I wrong.

What I like about the XV6800 over the i760:
  • It's faster. The CPU is slower, but this thing is a lot more responsive.
  • They keyboard is more logical and has great extra keys and good alt function controls.
  • it has a rotary thumb button
  • hardware buttons are more logically placed and a LOT harder to accidentally push
  • the power/data jack is mini-USB
  • It has an IR port if you want to goof with that
  • It's very simple to enable the true GPS on it so you can use it with Microsoft Live Search or Google Maps (even with the phone radio off)
  • way more sensitive touch screen - you can actually use your fingertip for the tiny on screen keyboard if you want
  • Extra stylus and a screen protector is included in the box
  • Camera has a flash
  • Software, software, software ...
The standard install of software on this phone (including phone setting software) is heads and shoulders above the i760. Some notables:
  • Adobe Reader Lite
  • Modem Link
  • Way better MMS software (night and day difference here)
  • Built-in App Killer/multi-app kill interface based off the "X" button
  • Built-in ZIP software
  • Sliding Sound control
  • Clear Storage App to easily wipe the phone
  • Better Key Lock management
  • Text Message Options for threaded or not (with WinMo 6.1 firmware update)
  • "Comm Manager" allows for control of certain phone and communications functions all in one spot
  • Access to all program control for hardware button assignment
Now for the drawbacks:
  • No automatic voice dialing, you have to train the system and assign values to it
  • the back battery cover is really thin and feels cheap and flimsy when removed
  • the slide out keyboard key clicks are a little mushier than the i760 but not super bad
  • no numeric hard keys (not that big of a deal after the first day or so though)
  • When fully open the top half wobbles a bit, not much
  • no 2.5mm headphone port. Instead you get a little mini-USB "Y" dongle (not a huge problem)

Deep Thoughts...

I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

Well it's all over...

Well it's all over. We've elected a new President. I'm so amazingly happy and just sorta still dumbstroke over all of it. What an amazing time to be alive to see something like this and to be a part of it was something I'll never forget.

Now I just gotta figure out what to do with the 40-60 hours a week I gave to the campaign now. Well I guess I could finally tear into Fable 2.

Oh and I got a new phone. My Samsung i760 wouldnt do an Active Sync over-the-air and after trying everything I called Verizon and I guess there's an issue with them losing data signals and just flaking out on the signal so they've recalled it.

They said they'd replace it with an XV6900 but yuck. No wifi, no slide-out keyboard. The folks at the Verizon store hooked me up with the XV6800 and I gotta say so far I actually am liking it a LOT better than the i760 so far. It's a very nice phone and with having Zimbra at work and all the stuff server-side, flipping phones is super damn easy now. Wooo. And I got Windows Mobile 6.1 updated on it and the GPS hacked to work with anything on the phone now like Windows Live Search.

Monday is Winding Down, the Election is Winding Up

Today was an amazing day in Auglaize County with the Barack Obama campaign. Lots of volunteers pounding the pavement and getting voter information out.

It's been a long long day. One more to go.

And can anyone help me here... I've been chewing on this the past couple of days and I cannot come up with one good reason to not make Election Day a nationally recognized holiday. Can anyone think of one?
