Apple's ability to create something new

I dont want to start a flame war here, or a "My dick is bigger than your dick" discussion.

But I want you to leave a comment and name one thing that Apple has created completely by themselves. Not from a company they bought and folded into themselves or something they bought, stole, borrowed, or in any other way received from another company or individual.

I know other companies do this stuff, so dont start changing the question and inserting another company in place of Apple. I just want to know about Apple. I honestly want to know. Name ONE thing they ever created.

  1. Well I personally believe that if it wasn't for Granny Smith, they wouldn't be so popular. =)

  2. They single handedly created a bunch of annoying Apple fans; does that count?

Say, Cory, this doesn't have something to do with you just purchasing the anti-IPod, does it? Hehe

  3. You're right about the annoying Apple fans, I'll agree to that.

No not really (because of my hot new sexy super Zune), I was just thinking about it the other day.

  4. Well, I hate to do it, but I just gotta. I left the comments go for a few days to see where this would go, and I think it's time to go here.

I don't understand how you can take a stand like this when Microsoft is pretty much just as guilty of stealing other people's innovations as Apple is. And now probably isn't the best time to raise this type of debate.

Couldn't it be said that the Zune is a rip off of the iPod? I'm not going to get into which I prefer but if you don't want to call it a rip off, you have to admit that it is an attempt by Microsoft to grab some of the PMP market.

And what about all the talk of Microsoft trying to buy Yahoo?

That's not exactly innovation either. It's another instance of them buying a product (that may or may not be doing well on its own) and then assimilating it into Microsoft Collective.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to say one is better than the other. I just think that when you're comparing oranges and oranges, you can't really ask a a question like "Which is less orangy?".

  5. I totally think other companies including Microsoft are guilty of this. But I have a sense (and maybe it's wrong) that I could think of at least 1 thing that they made on their own. Whereas I cant think of a single thing Apple has done on their own.

Maybe the original Macintosh, but it wasnt like there were other similar desktop PC's. They just made an easier/smaller one etc.

  6. APPLE
    - Please don't get me started!

  7. They created the...
    Uh...they did that....

    USB on the keyboard?
    Super slim computer/monitor combos?

I doubt they were the first for either of those, but I really don't know.
